I am starting a new 20 gallon tropical tank. Can somebody recommend some fish that are good for beginners? Any info would be much appreciated.

Welcome to AA!
The very first thing you need to do is learn about cycling. :)

What kind of fish are you interested in? Live bearers are a good beginner's fish. Colorful and breed easily. Cory cats, bristle nose plecos and kuhli loaches are great little bottom dwellers. There are schools of fish like (most) tetras, rasboras and danios and fish like bettas or smaller species of gouramis as centre piece fish. I like to suggest you go to your LFS and have a look around the display tanks to see what you like. You can then research the fish you are interested in and, of course, ask on here.

I think mumma covered everything! I started off with livebearers and I still have them today! I just wanted to say hi!
