Ok so this is a very new hobby for me but wanted to post what I have done so far and maybe help with picking out my stock.
Currently have a 20g community tank and started it ALL wrong lfs advice... since then I have done a lot of research and decided I wanted a cichlid tank.

So I bought a 55g from PETCO when they had the 1 a gallon sale. Didn't want to buy a stand so I built one here it is.

I was going to do a few firemouths and not sure what else now I have changed my mind and want a African tank.but I am lost as to what ones are safe with each other there is just way to many to choose from.

Oops sorry bout the double pic not sure why that happen posted from my phone.

One more question, I have a cycled 20g tank were do I put the media for that to help the cycle of my new tank?

What sort of media do you have in the 20g, sponges bio noodles? Also what sort of filter do you have in the 20g and your 55g

Using Aquaclear for a 30g tank on the 20.
And another Aquaclear for a 70g tank on the 55.

Yea the stand is solid built with 2x4s and 3/4 inch plywood thing is about 70pounds and solid as a rock.
