Steatocranus tinanti/Slender buffalo head

Steatocranus tinanti- these are some of my favorite fish in the fishroom right now. We have been growing out a group of 6 for about a year now, and they are getting to the point where it seems time to upgrade them from their 20 gallon. Tonight they went into the 40BR that we pulled our Mesonauta out of last night, so having them in the specimen container afforded me a rare opportunity to actually get pics of them. When they're in a tank they're always darting around so it's nearly impossible. They act a lot like gobies, perching when they aren't darting. They're African riverine cichlids. We're patiently waiting for maturity so we can get these fish to breed in that tank.

Wow those are sweet fish! I can always make extra space for them, if they're community fish

Where did you get them? They look awesome! You will definitely get some recognition with those babies

I haven't tried it, but wouldn't really recommend them for a community tank. We have kept them with young SAEs for some time, without issue, but for whatever reason they seem like more of a species tank kind of fish to me.

We got this group at a club auction last year and still have all 6. These are VERY cool fish.

Just wanted to post some update pics. The tinanti were surprisingly cooperative with the camera tonight. These have become one of my favorite species that I have kept. They're settling in really nicely and seem to really like the extra space that the 40 BR gives them. They grew out in a 20H until we moved them on the 2nd.

I have never seen these guys at my LFS wow really nice.. Their faces have real personality to them lol

Those are so cool! Are you breeding them to sell?

LOL. We are still working on getting them to breed. I'm pretty sure they have some more growing to do and they may not be sexually mature yet. I'd love to get breeder points for them with our local club, and after that we would sell remaining juvies.
