Hello, I have a 20 gallon tall tank, reasonably well planted with live plants, and well filtered. Is this stocking plan reasonable?

  • Neon Tetra = 6
  • Red Wag Platy = 3
  • Cory Cat = 3
  • Shrimp = 5
  • Nerite Snail = 1
Based on the general 1" of fish/gallon rule of thumb, I should be safe, and I gather than shrimp have a negligible bioload, would you agree?

Would adding a few Oto's to the above be out of the question? Any issue with combining Otos and Corys?

Any substitutions I should consider?

Thank you for any input.

Your stocking looks reasonable, and I agree with Delapool: I have 11 neons in a 20-long, and the school is very pretty. I also had five platys, but, as you'll discover, they breed. And breed. And breed. Be prepared to take some to the LFS if you don't have room for them.

As for the rest of your list, looks fine to me. I'd add 2-4 corys (depending on adult size) and maybe a couple more nerites. Sounds like a lovely tank.
