I have a new 37 gallon tank for freshwater fish. Any stocking suggestions?
Mumma.of.two said:Well that depends what you're interested in. I'd like to suggest you got to your LFS and have a look around. Write down any fish that catch your eye then research them.
Aquarist1234 said:I really like Livebearers and Cichlids and have experience with both, Cichlids may be to big to have a lot in a 37, but I'm up for any suggestions.
emerald76 said:You can also go to liveaquaria, write down the fish you like, and give us the list so we can help you determine Which will fit

emerald76 said:Wait that the inch per gal is a bad rule( because it is) or that an Oscar gets too many inches for your tank?
josh7 said:Well its false because if you really did that you would say a 14 inch Oscar would only need 14 gallons of water that's the issue with the rule.
Aquarist1234 said:That the oscar would outgrow my tank in a very short time. Oh, and whats wrong with the rule?
josh7 said:I would go for a amazon type setup with a pair of Bolivian ram cichlids a group of Cory catfish like 8 pandas a bristlenose Pleco and maybe 6 serape tetras.
Also have you cycled your tank.
emerald76 said:It applies only really to very small fish and even then it doesn't work well as 10 neon tetras in a ten gallon is ten too many
Gboy66 said:I dont see the problem with 1" neons in a 10 lol. Regardless, the rule is useless
emerald76 said:They are too active and really need a 20 long
Plus most people wouldn't have just neons in it they'd have oscars and guppies and common plecos and angelfish and goldfish and a whole host of things
Sorry if I'm being assuming but I've seen these sorts of things were people buy a lot of those fish for their little five and ten and one gal aquariums
