I am about to rebuild my first planted tank.

Onion plant
Hygrophila
As far as substrate, I should be able to use just about anything? I know it needs to be deep for the onion. But as far as anything I have read online or in my few that is the only one with a specific need. The others should be fairly simple. Any tips?
