Sump over flow ?

Is an overflow box a must have or can you just use a piece o hose/pipe ?

a must if your tank isn't drilled otherwise flooding will happen!!!

Oh right what lph would I need the aquarium is 230ltr and the sump is 32"x10.5"x10.5" don't know ltr of it :/

The flow rate of the overflow is based on the flow rate of the return pump at that head height. So if the return pump is 600gph but after going up four feet to the display tank it is only 350gph, you need an overflow box of at least 350gph.

Pick an overflow box that's rated for more flow than your pump is capable of producing. That way your pump flow rate will be the controlling factor in the loop. If your overflow box can't keep up with the pump, the display tank will overflow. If the pump can't keep up with the overflow box, nothing bad happens.

be careful doing this,the pump needs to be rated just below the overflow rate or the flow may not force the bubbles through the syphon.
