i setup a sump on a 120 gallon reef with a 1290 gph pump, the overflow is hanging from the side and the pipes are going to the sump under the tank, my question is how come when i set it all up, and started running it, you can hear the water being sucked down the overflow pipe, its really loud and annoying, is there anyway i can get rid of it? Is there something im missing?

thanks any posts will be appreciated.

sump size is 20 gallons
piping is 1"

You can install what is called a durso stand pipe. You can also install a small airline tube down the drain line until the gurgling sounds stop or decrese significantly. Part of the noise is a result of air going down the return line and trying to come back up and the airline provides a way to bleed the air back with out afecting the water's flow. The durso stand pipe will greatly reduce the amount of air going down the pipe.
