Sump volume question

Was wondering if you include the sumps volume with the display tank volume when considering return pumps, protein skimmer size, and flow rates, tank turnover rate ect

I don't for things like flow since the flow needs to be in the tank and not the sump..... Except for the return of course.

Flow rate, turnover rate...no. For the skimmer, yes. Figure your entire system volume, and then get a skimmer one size larger.
