Are there any typically terrestrial plants that can grow underwater. For instance dandelion plants look ( grow ) very similarly to sword plants can they grow fully submerged I only haven't tried it because I'm scared to contaminate my tank

Typically terrestrial? Can't say if they're "typically" but there are a lot of plants that can survive in both, or partially submerged environments.
