Around December I purchased a betta fish for my younger sister (elephant ear), beautiful fish in my opinion, I bought a little tank with a filter and a heater. I left it bare bottom and bought a ton of beta food and water conditioner.

Well. Somewhere along the lines things got messed up. I got home this weekend to find the filter clogged with slime, the bottom layer of the tank coated in betta food. The heater unplugged to make room for a straightener. The anubias in there barely hanging on.. and somehow out from underneath a little log the betta swims out to me.

How on earth did this thing survive? I'm not sure, but I feel compelled to take it from my sister and restore it to full health. Any objections?

What should I be concerned about here health-wise?

I would take it. And if it looks fine I would just keep an eye on it.
