The start of algae

I'd choose nerite snails, they can't breed in fresh water, eat the most types of algae of any FW species I know of, and come in a huge variety of shapes and colors.

ok Thats good to know as i would have been worried at seeing them....not sure what the local stockist have...but will have a look around....do they need to be eased into the tanks like fish do?

What do you mean "eased in"? Like acclimated? I'd acclimate them, just cause it can't hurt.
