is granite safe to use in aquariums, the reason being is that my uncle works with different types of granite from africa and stuff and it is beautiful he has blues, reds, greens, all different colors and they have sort of iridescent speckles, also what are some other good rocks to use in aquariums

As far as I know, granite's good to go.
Make sure, however, it hasn't been sealed. Jeff

yeah ... it has to be untreated ... but if your uncle gets the granite in its bulk form, then great for you! Hell, i wouldn't mind som nice looking granite!

Granite will raise your PH, I recently had problems with some granite rocks. I used to think that granite was safe as well. It contains buffers.

Interesting observation, cdawson. For the life of me I can't think of any component of granitic rocks that should raise the pH of water any.
