Had occassion to pick up some water from the sewage treatment plant recently, and the water is absolutely loaded with microbial organisms; rotifers, attached ciliates, free-swimming cilitates, and algaes of various assorted types. All of course of which are involved in the treatment of the waste water at the plant.
Made me wonder about the possibility of using microbial filtration on a freshwater planted tank. My thoughts centered around the idea of removing a carbon filter from a HOB filter and filling the chamber with the "gunk and debris" of the waste water, allowing it to settle and then running it without the poly/carbon filter. I'm wondering if the flow through would be adequet to all ow sufficient opportunity for the water to be filter naturally without pushing all the gunk and debris into the main tank. I'm sure that some of the microbes would carry over into the main tank as well.
Anybody have any thoughts or opinions?
