To seal or not to seal

My girlfriend found an interestingly shaped and incredibly heavy piece of rock that she wishes to use for a waterfall she’s creating for her pond. She’s already painted it using acrylic paint. Before I have to lift this monstrous piece of rock again, should she seal the paint with a waterproof, aquarium safe sealant or is the acrylic paint she used safe enough? If the sealant is necessary, what are some recommendations?

Wow...uh, Thats a question I have never heard before.

I know when you are sealing drift wood that it has to cure in the sun for a month before you can put it in the pond. I would think it would be the same with the rock. What kind of paint did she use.

she used acrylic paint. whatever that means. I'm clueless when it comes to this pond stuff, I'm a saltwater fish guy

Im a reefer too that decided to install a pond.

Acrylic paints are usually water based. That means that it will need to be sealed. What kind of sealer....I have no idea. I would let it cure for a while before you run the pond. You dont want any of that sealer leeching into the water.
