I seem to be very obsessed with super crystal clear water. And I have seen some youtube videos of aquarium water thats so super clear, it makes me want it. However, these videos im watching are using UV sterilisers. Are they bad to use in freshwater tanks? I heard they kill off beneficial bacteria. Is that true? If anyone uses one could I get a list of cons and pros?
Thank you.

I have personally never used them in a FW system, and just don't think they are needed. You can get super clear water by just choosing the right filter media and keeping a very robust water change/maintenance schedule.

UV filters work with FW tanks just fine. But as Fort says, they are not really needed with today's filter technology. UV doesn't kill BB because the BB doesn't live in the water column. About 98% live in your filter and 2% in your gravel and on your hardscape. OS.
