What Did You do With Your Tank Today?

Had a freak storm blow through town at about 9:30 am. I was at work and most of the area lost power, I only live 1.5 miles from work so lost power at the house too. Got home at 3 and the power was still off. Walked inside and filters/heaters/lights were off! Everything's on now and didn't lose any fish. Glad it wasn't hotter outside.

Do you mind me asking what you paid for your canister filter? I have a new build coming up, at least a 55g. And ill be getting a canister. Never had one before.

Yeah I only paid $115 at petco! It was a great deal for the filter as it is usually $170! I would definitely recommend canister filters over hobs in terms of filtration quality. Hope this helps!:)

Caught all the platy fry in my breeding trap, again, as the trap sank and they escaped, again. Don't want them eaten up by my bettas, so I'm waiting for them to get a little bigger. Going to move them to the empty half of my divided betta tank later today. They are at least big enough to not fit through the mesh.

I also took great joy in having to send my boyfriend to the store for pantyhose so I can maybe start using a normal syphon in the betta fry tank instead of the turkey baster.

Not sure what is faster growing...Salvinia or duckweed

Did you actually wave your pointed finger at them and say "No!" :)

My Salvinia grows faster by far! Or maybe it grows the same but the leaves are tiny so I wouldn't know!!! That I can easily feed to my Koi for an instant snack.

They eat Salvinia too but not so fast, I think cause it is tougher.

Uuuh, yeah..... lol:ROFLMAO: Actually it went more like, Okay which one of you is eating my new plants and they all looked at me like angels , especially the Angels, ......then it was, no, no don't eat the plant. It is valuable and I just bought them and planted them!!! again....

Then I watched them all again - giving them the evil eye, but no one went near it...

Later I came back, maybe 20 min. more missing........ all ...looking so innocent!

Still haven't seen anyone of them near it. There must be a look out and then when I leave the room they rush over and nibble.

More of that one was missing this morning too! I just bought another bag of it, pretty expensive snack food!

What I did today was buy some snails to replace some, for someone here after they got lost in the mail. These all looked really good, and while I was there I got a small free egg Mystery snail pod from their tank. There were blue and black MS in there. I put it onto my filter bracket in hopes of a bunch of new babies! (that is inside of the tank, but not in the water though, just for all of you wondering.)

Added a air bubbler inside of my 72G to see if it would help the fish.

Tomorrow AM will be big water change

Bought a new 29 gallon on Craigslist, so I spent the day picking it up, setting it up, and catching some fish out of other close to fully stocked tanks to move into that one.
Luckily I run 2 filters on every tank just in case I decide to add new tanks, so I already had cycled media, now I'll just have to keep an eye on parameters and hope I don't have to go through too big of cycle.

I also did a bunch of w/c's and spent over an hour or two picking snails out of one of my 10 gallons. Hopefully whatever is left will be devoured by my new loach friends fairly fast.

Then the rest of the evening was spent trying to figure out what I wanted to do with that tank, finding a new filter so I can run multiple on that as well, and looked for a 30" light since the one I originally bought for it ended up not being the correct length.

Overall, a busy day!

You need to perform a stakeout to find the culprit. Normally I would suggest bringing a book and some snacks with you for the long haul but it appears they operate pretty quickly. The lookout is most likely the one hanging out at the front. Just throw a blanket or quilt over yourself and plant yourself in a chair. Nothing wrong with that :)

50 % clean on my bettas tank and algae scrub. Put my cana snail back in with him as i think my elephant nose was bothering him!

:ROFLMAO: Now I am going to have to move my chair!

Moved some fish around in the tanks, getting ready to get my 37G emptied so it find a new home. Just starting.

A couple days ago I found my sole little cherry barb female (which was given to me with a bunch of fish) swimming at an angle in the tank and upon closer inspection, it looked like she had been chomped in the middle, by a bigger fish which is probably my 6" long now fat and big Spotted Raphael cat. It really only comes out at night and not even every night.

I got it feeling better and it looks like she will recover from her trauma. But I am sad to now need to probably rehome the Spotted Raphael which I have had since a half inch long tiny baby. Possibly I can change tanks, but there are Cochu Blue and Cardinal Tetras in there, about the same size as the Cherry barb which is quite a number of years old according to the previous owner 4-7 years maybe.

And my huge almost 7" Red tail shark which seems pretty mild mannered with the other fish which used to be in there just a lot of shooing them out of her way, not appearing to be getting nasty with them. In the bottom.

There are lots of trails for the fish to zoom through the bottom, and also hiding areas too.

Anyone have any thoughts on them hanging out in the same tank? Previously RTS hung out with The twins, two Siamese algae Eaters 6-7" long (they died in my pH crash).

This is the 72G tank...

Just picked this guy up from my lfs. They posted him on their Facebook and I said I'm coming to get him! Haha I am so excited about him! I also picked up a really nice piece of holey rock.

Awesome looking fish Mommachef! I love his colors. What kind of fish is he?

I did a 30% PWC on the 55g and resalted it, did a 50% PWC on the 10g, a 50% on the 3g, a 25% on the 5.5g, and trimmed some plants in the 55g. Lots of water lifting since I can't use any sort of water changer on the 55 since its in a weird location in my basement (stairs included:p). I also decided on my future stock of my 55g once the ich is gone. All in all a long day of water changes!

Did a 50% water change, vacuumed the gravel and scraped algae off the sides of my 20 gallon tank. Now I am waiting for the water to clear up a bit so I can continue scraping. X_X
