I have this grayish dusty-looking floating algae in my tank. It has been growing rapidly for the last few days.
Here is my tank history:

tank is about 6 weeks old and is cycled (I got an old gross filter from a random person I met at LFS)
I started with cichlids but took your advice that my tank was too small and returned them
I replaced them about a week ago with a leapord puffer and four pristella tetra and the guy gave me a few of the snails for free. (no idea what kind they are) Bad idea?
The puffer died within 24 hours ( He looked slow and sluggish at the store, shouldn't have bought him)
The pristella are still going strong.
When I had the puffer in the tank I put a tiny piece of frozen brine shrimp in the tank for him. I did not rinse it (like I learned I should have tonight).
NOW, there is this grayish algae sitting on everything and when i move the water it floats around in the water.
What is it?
