What size are mbuna adults?

They start breeding at 4 inches roughly and will max out around 6-7 inches. But your mileage may vary, and overfed mbuna will get very oversized depending on species... Dwarf mbuna generally max out at 4inches or less. Metriaclima species get much bigger.

mbuna like labs and zebras get to like 5-6in, auratus can get 7+, fuelleborni and rusty 7+, iv seen a 7.5 in bumblebee cichlid. as mattrox says, with overfeeding and a biig tank, they can grow much larger. same as with a smll tank and less food, they can stunt and stay dwarf-like.
mbuna can breed from about 2ins, but usually at 3.5 to 4in. my smallest holding mbuna was 2.5 in and gave 16 fry, so not bad lol.

Age IMO is also a factor, my yellow labs never started breeding till they were almost three, same with my brichardia. Some of the zebra's start breeding at about 6 months.
