Well the Megaflow systems use 1". I think it is common for the overflow pipe diametre to be larger than the return pipe diametre. 3/4" is common for the return.
I would guess that bigger is better on the overflow. I'm no expert on this one, though.
I would use at least the size of the fittings on the pump. I used 1" for my return and 1.5" on my drain for my basement setup. I planned to use a pump with a 1" outlet and I wanted my drain pipe to be bigger than the return.
I have the Megaflow overflow so I did have to reduce the return to 3/4 and the drain went from 1" to 1.5". I would think the bulkhead size would depend on the size of the hole in the tank?
