What to do?

My nitrates spiked while my nitrite and ammonia are at zero, what do I do since my new fish are coming today? Do I do a water change with new stressed out fish or do I let the nitrates slide?

A few smaller water changes before they arrive should work.

I did a water change and got orange on the api test. My fish are still not here since fedex is late. Sometimes the colors are hard to determine until you put them up to the light.
