when to start my skimmer

I've read on this forum that you should wait until after your tank is cycled before starting your skimmer..Is this true ?

When you have fish or corals taking a 1 or 2
No need during your cycle

Even after the tank has cycled and start adding livestock
There isn't anything in there for the skimmer to remove .
I went with when I added my first couple fish I turned on my skimmer .
It took some time to dial it in ,
They all have a break in time .( time to build up beneficial bacteria inside )

The cycle time is a good time to get it rough tuned and then once it gets some junk in the water after adding fish and pulling skimmate then you won't have as much trouble or time fine tuning it.

This makes more sense then the advice I was given when I started .
After my cycle was finished It took me a week to break my skimmer in .

I did the same. Learn from experience. Fortunately for some they came here before or right after starting their tank, unlike me lol. I didn't know there were SW forums when I got started.
