Where does jungle val originate?

Ok, i was at my cottage a few weeks ago, and while I was snorkeling, I noticed that the plant covering almost the intire lake floor look like jungle val. It had the some texture, colour and everything. I am new to planted tanks, so that is probably why I am just noticing it now. I thought i would just ask where it originates from, because if this really is jungle val, then that would be sweet! A plant that costs like five dollars at my LFS for free!! lol

It's found primarily in the Southern US, Central and South America, hence the scientific name: Valisneria americana.

Hmm, i will have to get a pic of this other stuff, because it looks so much like Jungle val. Thanks for the help though. I am sure you are right.

I see no reason for it not to be able to propagate in Canada, especially if it was introduced "accidentally".

If you see a "wild" plant. You of course should make sure it's legal to collect. Then quarrantine it for a while, but other than that, if you can get a cool water plant for free locally...then you should give it a try.
I often see plants at our LFS that I know are some ditchweed from another part of the country.
