update

The bulge has gotten little larger and is turning a little clear. It is the size of a large english pea. He is still acting normal eating, swimming. I have a theory the bulge will burst at that point hit may expose his internal organs or it is a air pocket under the skin and he will be live. But is am thinking it will cause his death.

new update

The bulge got to be size of a lima bean and looked to be clear. I removed the betta from the tank and cut the bulge and clear liquid came out. The bulge has shrunk over the past 4 days. I have not observed any ill effects from the operation.

RIP

Well I guess i was wrong I woke up this morning and my Betta has passed. My best guess was that the bulge was a bladder. I did not see him surviving with the bulge and I thought I was doing the right thing by cutting it open.
