You'll know when you have the right conditions. I've brought home Anacharis that looked like it was on the verge of death, and within 24 hours it was bright and green again under good, appropriate (correct K rating, wattage) light, fertilizer and clean water.

My LFS guy always reminds me when I buy plants, "The key to success with them is the right light, fertilizer, and fresh water".
