Why is my Golden Ram breeding alone?

Hey guys!

Very new to the group, Hello! My tank is already established with a tetra and I decided to buy a golden ram since I thought my tetra needed a friend. After 24hrs my ram has laid a lot of eggs. How is this possible? I know the tetra and the ram were racing around together from the beginning but can't imagine them cross-breeding. Will the eggs die off?
