Personally I never had any problems with that but it doesn't mean it can't happen. I prefer corkscrew vals which seem to handle most anything, even high doses of liquid carbon in my tanks. If you want to dip them and are worried only do a 1:6 or 1:10 ratio of hydrogen peroxide 3% to water. I actually never had to spot treat any Vals.
