I recently brought some natural trace chiclid and didn't notice it was for African Chiclids and I have jack dempseys which aren't from Africa would it hurt if I used it in my tank with the jacks?

Why did you buy it in the first place? Those types of additives are designed to alter the alkalinity which will in turn affect your pH. You do NOT want this. Dempseys prefer softer water anyway so need to add anything to your tank.

If their using RO/distilled/purified water would be fine to add the traces back in, but straight tap water you shouldn't need it, but adding a little won't kill/hurt anything if you've already used it.
