That's apistogramma this is ? I'm thinking orange flash but there is no turquoise on the anal fin , that I see yet .

Apistogramma cacatuoides "orange flash". Nice male you have there.

Thank you for answering me , I thought this must be one of those mixed kind, another impulse buy, I thought , well good then I have to find a female !

K that's hard to find! A female orange flash. Most sites only sale a pair , this little guy needs a mate or two right?

You can try aquabid, http://cichlids.net, or the apistogramma.com forum. I'm looking around for a few female cacatuoides as well. I got lucky and have 1 pair. The majority in the batch I bought were all male (6 triple red males,2 wild colored males, and 1 female). I paired off the female w/ one of the triple reds and they just bred yesterday. Maybe I'll have more females when the fry mature.

For A caucatoides you really want several females for each male to see the real deal. A 40 gallon tank is ideal.

they don't all need to be orange flash either.

Ok , thanks I didn't know if that would be making a hybrid or not , good advice. Next I have a 125 gallon tank and I have the sweetest blood parrots, don't pick on anyone and sevrum , all south American so do they go with appisto's?

Don't know about the severums (maybe you could ask severum mama :)), but the blood parrots could be fine as they're not that badly aggressive.

I've kept about 15 species of Apistogramma, including cacatuoides, and have never once had success with a harem. I see it recommended all the time but I've had several breeding females kill the odd girls out. Pairs are fine. Not sure what is meant by "the real deal" and why a spawning pair wouldn't count.

NO - they will all harass and eat them.

I wouldn't keep them together, but not because blood parrots or severums will eat them. Apistogramma can be surprisingly fiesty and in all likelihood would be left alone by BP and severums. However, if you want successful spawns, it's best to just keep a pair in their own tank. That's going to cut down on stress for you AND the fish. :)

lol - by the real deal I mean multiple female territories jealously guarded, and the presence of sneaker males. Didn't mean to be offensive - pairs can work just fine.

Edit: i forget if the article was on bitaeniata or aggasizi but there is a great one on sneaker males in a 100 gallon tank. I've seen some monster apisto tanks too with some really neat complex behavior going on.

I agree with Severum. Keep a single pair in a tank for spawning purposes.

Oh it's a 125 tank and every is getting along fine because no one is competing for the same space, all of my large parrots and large sev and medium rotkeil are to big to go underneath where they hang out but no one chases , the only chasing fish I have is a male fire-mouth and he is small may have to get rid of him , he is small and suppose to be semi/agres but he the rotkeil very shy to but those are my only problems, the appisto was alone at the Lfs and since he was south American I tried him , but All good , I want some bright ones for some color though
