How many gallons of water should one breeding pair of convicts have?? some says 20 some say 55...which is good?

A 20 long is fine for breeding an established pair, but doesn't have enough space for fry to grow out to any size, or for the female to get away from the male if she isn't ready to spawn.

The extra 6" is in the depth, but yes I prefer that for this particular set-up. For some stocking applications the length is more important.
Ahhh right, depth...makes sense...

Now that I have your attention 8^)

I would like a pair of cichlids that would fit in a 40g, either b or L, that would be a little challenging to keep and breed that is somewhat unusual...what species do you suggest I start researching?

Sajica's are what I'm looking for currently for one of my 40B's.
