Could it possibly be a convict cichlid?
I really don't know...

Convicts are C American, not African. Your fish looks like an African Mbuna from Lake Malawi to me. Specifically Pseudotropheus acei. Pretty common cichlids; you should be able to find them at most LFS, and even the big chain pet stores.
