Disease or Physical Damage

I was gone for the weekend and when I get home one of my fish has a "bit" of him missing on his side. He seems healthy and is swimming around the tank. Has he just injured himself, or could it be some sort of disease?

Not sure but either way I would QT him if possible and treat with lots of clean water to ensure he doesn't get a bacterial infection. What size tank is he currently in? What are his tank mates? Depending on your plants & decos, it's possible he injured himself, but just as possible he fought with someone.
