Eartheaters

Do all eartheaters need to be in a school just curios. I always see them in a pair or as a group of 5 never by them selves

Depends on the species really. The surinamensis-types (altifrons, pindare, abalios, etc) of geophagus, as well as the species in the genus satanoperca, prefer to be in groups when young, and pair off as they get older. Braziliensis-types (braziliensis, steindachneri, etc.) are a bit more solitary, but not always
