Jaguar actng weird

WeirdI came down stairs to my jaguar pretty beaten an tore up lying on the bottom of the tank so I grabbed him put an put him in a bucket For about 2 days an i put him back in the tank and he just keeps swimming to the top an sticking his mouth out of the water and kinda acting weird other then that he's just lying on the bottom

It wasn't the wisest thing to do to put it in a bucket for so long. Suprised its still alive to be honest.

Anyway why was it beaten up? What tankmates does it have and tank size.
