I got a 125 g set up from my neighbor today. I'm going thru the stuff it came with and he has a Lifeguard Fluidized Bed Filter. I read it's for beneficial bacteria. Is it worth cleaning up and putting it on or not? Thx for any input. I've already put my seeded sand base out a 55 g as well as moved my fluval fx off my 140 to get it going.

This is one type of filter that I have wanted to try, but never got to building one. They are very efficient, in that they can support a huge bacteria colony in a small space, but some users have reported problems getting the flow right.

We had them on the systems at one of the shops I worked at. I wouldn't consider them needed unless you were running a very large, very heavily stocked system. Outside of that normal filtration should be more than adequate.
