I have a spotted gold Severum that just the other day kept doing the same route over and over. He seemed to have control of what he was doing. As he swam under the plant he would turn upsidedown then flip right back. I thought he was either playing or he was nervous because the tank was overcrowded.

Yesterday I took two large Severums and three angelfish out and replaced them with five small fish. So today he’s just hanging our looking normal then all of the sudden he starts with the upsidedown stuff again. Looking controlled still though. Then he looks normal again.

I have a 39 gallon tank and he’s about five inches from nose to end of tail.

I’m so worried he’s stressed. What’s going on?

Unfortunately never had a fish recover once they start doing it. Sometimes if intestinal air from maybe gulping air at feeding or constipation a change in food helps - generally I find once a problem fish, always a problem fish unfortunately
