I hate to say it but none of those fish belong in a 38g tank long term. The minimum for most Malawi is a 55g and the venustus along with other haps is a 125g. The only mbuna I'd even think about would Saulosi or Afra Cobue and that's even ousting it.

No that's a old myth when stocking aquariums. For instance take 14 1" neons and then take a 14" jaguar cichlid, they're both 14" but have a drastically different bioloads.

Just takes a little research, that's why I have so many tanks since they're so many I would like. I've only had 207 species of cichlids so I figure I have 2293 or so to go.

You know you could probably get away with the german reds if housed alone, but you'd only be allowed 1m/4f which would result on lots of fry.
