Aragocrete and GARF?

Has anyone made these aragocrete rocks that GARF shows you how to make. From what I am reading is this a substitute for LR. Can it actually work as a biological filter like LR does, or is this Aragocrete more or less for decoration.

Anybody had success making these?

This rock after some time in an aquarium will become LR just as the ones you buy in the LFS. The only difference is you will be seeding them with the LR you already have and it will take time to become inhabited with the bacteria and life that makes LR what it is.

I want to try it, but to get all the materials and invest the time into making it, it is worth more to me right now, to just buy AC LR.
