cheato with no fuge? pod haven?

can I put cheato into the main tank? I don't have a fuge or sump, and my snails have consumed most of the hair algae that I had a week ago. there were a bunch of pods zipping around on the hairs, but i'm worried they'll have no place to live now

will cheato stay together?

Is there another algae I should use instead?

I have chaeto in my fuge, and I would think it would be ok in the main tank, but it couldn't have much current around it (or it would just break up and go all around the tank).
