I'm thinking about setting up a 55 gal sump under my 125

I would have my skimmer and an easy to build algae scrubber inside

For the scrubber I was thinking about rows of egg crate?

Good plan?

Plastic craft mesh will work much better as an algae scrubber. How were you planning on building it?

Egg Crate? No, won't work, its not small enough for the algae to take hold and grow. gotta be a fine mesh material, possibly egg crate could be the backstop for it, or frame.
And , did I read correctly? Your going to put the scrubber in the skimmer? That would create a mess inside.

He means in the sump.
I made one very easy out if a rio pump. PVC into a 90 degree with a slit down the middle. The cross stitch mesh stuff there and encased in an outdoor brochure holder.

AH.
And yea, the mesh has to be used in order to give the algae some growth spot, egg crate is to big.
