I have had minimal success growing out my chaeto and wonder if I'm using too strong a light. I see many setups with just a single bulb light and less wattage. I'm using a Coralife aqualight unit at 65w

In my limited experience with my fuge, I would say yes it is. I have less then half that and the stuff I'd growing like a weed.

Are you sure it's your lighting? My cheato was shrinking up for the longest time until a put a koralia nano to increase the flow in the fuge. When I did that, the stuff came alive and literally filled the fuge in no time.

What kind of flow do you have? Is it pretty still?

My research told me low flow so I have very little.

FYI....I have heard that cheato grows in both high and low flow. In my personal experience, a medium to high flow had a MUCH better growth rate then low.

If you stuff isn't doing that hot with low flow, give it a try. What do ya have to lose?

Lastly...i personally think you have too much wattage as well. What spectrum are you using? I use a 6,500K plant bulb.
