I purchased a 29 today and an eclipse system to run it as my QT tank (minus the charcol of course).

I see no reason that a QT tank can't be attractive, so I am wondering if anyone knows of a substrate that would appear similar in color to light sand, yet not have any biological properties?

Please let me know.

The problem with a substrate in your qt is that if you have to treat any new arrivals with medicine then the substrate will soak it up, and it will not be effective. Also your qt will probably double as a hospital tank on the in case you have a disease outbreak. The only thing that is suggested in the qt is some PVC fittings and such fir the fish to hide behind. Sorry.

In addition the QT tank usually is not something thats always up and running. Its usually something thats setup when needed and taken down and cleaned when no longer needed.
