Spotted Cardinal against Spotted Cardinal

I have a 30gal tank and for the last 3 years I have had one spotted cardinal living there. I just added another one because I read they like to swim in schools. I rearranged the tank to give it a different appearance so the orignal fish wouldn't be so aggressive to the other one. I've read they are quite peaceful, but so far the older one keeps pecking away at the fins of the new one.

Should I give these fish some time or should I bring back the new fish to the store?

give them a little while the one thats been in the tank is showing the new one who the bose is. if they dont work it out try taking both of them out for a bit then but them both back in(might wanna rearange the tank a little too. then they should be best of friends
