I've got a wierd white film covering one (just one) of my LR, new 75g FOWLR tank (no fish ATM, although there were for the first week).

This film flakes off if distrubed, and is like a fine layer of rubber covering most of the branch. In the pic below you can see some of what's left, it just started appearing in the last 2 days.

Its not tight up against the rock, but kind of "over" it a bit, spanning across the little holes and texture of the rock.

Any takers?

Let it go for awhile. It's probably a type of encrusting sponge. If you let it go it and it is sponge, it should produce spouts.

Well, that's up to you. I don't mind the sponges, some people don't like them. They normally grow in lower light areas and don't bother anything. Some sponges can be invasive but in my experience with these white/clear encrusting sponges that hasn't been the case.
