We just purchased a 20 gallon rubbermaid trash can, in which we will mix our new water, to make water changes a little easier. Is there something that we should do (treat/scrub) to the trash can before we start using it to mix up new water? TIA.

oi - to add to that question

is there any brand that's better?

I've got 3 to choose from locally, ACE Brand in a stylish BRIGHT red.... Rubbermaid Roughneck Brand in bland brown or gray and Top Notch brand in light gray or green

the top notch brand seemed to feel "greasy" but nothing rubbed off on a piece of paper I wiped it with ... I think it's just the natural feel of the plastic

I believe the roughnecks are okay to use.. I generally use rubbermaid, and haven't seen a change. I would just rinse out.. stick in my tank water and maybe a powerhead, and stick something cheap but licing.. and see how it goes if you are doubtful
