How important is surface agitation in a reef? Is it important even if I have overflows and a skimmer running? 600 gph into the sump. Water goes into sump at bottom so it bubbles like crazy

It depends. How is your PH? If it's ok, I would say you don't need further aeration.

Ph has always been 8.1 8.2 without kalk. But I had the returns agitating the surface.. Yesterday I turned the returns down to push water in the back corners to eliminate the dead spots. Should I just keep an eye in the ph for a few days?
