Aquarium heater leaking something in to tank??

Over the past two weeks i have noticed something causing like a film on the surface of my tank. I googled and read that it could be from cooking??? Anyway tonight i noticed that the temperature had dropped in the tank and when i looked closer noticed that there was something leaking out of the heater and there was condensation in the heater. I removed it and put it in a bucket of water and straight away the bucket was then full of whatever is leaking from the heater. What is it that is coming out of the heater and is it harmful to the fish and turtles i have in there?

Get a new heater ASAP!!!! I do not know what is in the heater, but it can not be good!

Were it me I'd contact the manufacturer and ask. It's hard to say what is leaking out I'm just glad you or your livestock didn't get shocked.
