Diy Aqueon Quietflow filter cartridge

So I had an idea for a cheap diy cartridge for my Aqueon filter. I was thinking if I could save the frame on my old cartridge, could i buy one of those media mesh bags, put the frame in to keep form, and fill it with filter floss? Just an idea to save money. Also, I might add some biomax wherever i could fit it.

Just buy aquaclear filter sponges. Fill it up with them and biomax and purigen
