Dojo loach over wintering outdoors

I saw this looking for something other than goldfish for a pond and now I'm wondering if these will survive in a pond. It says that they burrow in the mud, so if there is mud in the pond will they survive?

From what I've seen from the dojo loach is that they are a fairly bulky fish mine has managed to escape the tank and survive for about 5 min or so before I found him but when it gets too cold for him he just floats like he's about to die. The fish could probably survive in a pond but I doubt it would be a happy existence in the winter for them
