Filter Floss and Bio Balls

Ok ive heard lots of stuff about these two things and i think i know how they work but could someone enlighten me as to how the bio balls work and if they are worth getting? .... also what exactly does filter floss do? .... also where do you put these things? .... TIA

Bio-balls are those small porous balls that are used for beneficial bacteria colonization.

Filter floss is fiber like material that is used for mechanical filtration (removal/trapping of detrius).

You can get either at your local fish store...ask for the filtration section.
